Elizabeth Harris Shaffner, Ph.D. (she/her)
Licensed Psychologist, owner of Modern Psychology Denver
I am a licensed psychologist practicing in Colorado and 42 other states. I specialize in individual therapy with healthy adults. My clients are people who might find themselves unexpectedly struggling with issues such as anxiety, depression, grief/loss, a major life transition, a challenging relationship, or a significant life event such as a trauma. I have a special interest in providing support to those who are struggling from burn out, are feeling overwhelmed, or having difficulty with their attention. As a result, many of my clients are students, parents, or professionals who seek to find new ways of coping with life stressors and who desire an outlet to explore unhealthy habits that have prevented them from living the life they desire.
Foundational to my approach is providing a safe and collaborative space so you can show up authentically. I customize each session to your unique needs, using a trauma-informed, multiculturally-oriented approach that takes into consideration layers of your physical, social, and emotional functioning. My style is warm and compassionate, while also being direct enough to keep you accountable.
There are many tools in my therapist’s toolbox. I have extensive training and experience with multiple research-based therapies and often use Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, in my work. I improve your ability to cope by using mindfulness and self-compassion techniques. When it comes to helping you explore past patterns and improving your relationships, we will work from a relational and interpersonal lens.
